produce() drops the letter in your outbox; only the receipt (callback or flush) proves delivery.

Producers gather records into batches in memory and send them in the background. The call returns as soon as the record is queued, long before any broker has confirmed it. Check the delivery callback for the outcome, and flush before exiting so queued records are not thrown away with the process.
