How this ranking is built
Every job we track comes straight from a company's own career page. For each active role we extract the skills the posting asks for, such as a programming language, a framework or a tool. The ranking above counts how many currently-open roles list each skill, so a skill near the top is requested by more employers right now. When a job is closed or a new one appears, the counts change on the next sync.
How to use it
- Choosing what to learn next: compare two skills you are weighing and see which one more employers ask for.
- Editing your resume: make sure the in-demand skills you really have appear in it, in plain words.
- Planning a study path: pair a skill from the list with a free lesson in our Learn section.
Things to keep in mind
A count measures how often a skill is mentioned, not how well it pays or how hard it is to get hired for. Some skills are mentioned in nearly every job in a field, which pushes them up the list without telling you which roles are growing. Use the ranking as one input next to the roles you actually want, and read a few real job descriptions before deciding.
