Trick to keep in mind+3 XP
No text in the prompt, no memory in the model.
A model call carries no state of its own. Whatever it appears to remember is text your program put in that call's input, and input has a size limit. When a long chat gets trimmed, an early instruction can simply stop being sent, and the model behaves as if it never heard it. The model did not get worse.
Read it once, then a question tests whether the trick stuck.
