Cybersecurity Fundamentals Tutorial
Think like a defender: threats, common attacks, safe logins and incident response
Beginner4 lessonsabout 21 min of reading
This course is for developers, analysts and career-changers who want a working understanding of cybersecurity without a deep networking background. You do not need to know how to attack anything. The whole course is written from the defender's side: what can go wrong, how to notice it, and what to change so it is less likely next time.
By the end you will be able to describe a system in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability, sketch a small threat model on one page, explain the main attack categories (phishing, malware, credential attacks, denial of service) and the controls that blunt each one, store passwords with a salted, slow hash, and follow a calm checklist when something looks like a breach.
The four lessons are ordered from mindset to practice. First the vocabulary and the habit of asking what could go wrong. Then the attack categories you will actually meet. Then the one control every application touches, authentication. Finally, what to do when prevention fails. Two lessons include Python programs you can run as they are, and every printed result shown was produced by running the code.
