SEO Fundamentals
How search works, how to find what people search for and how to make pages that deserve to rank
Beginner4 lessonsabout 21 min of reading
This course is for developers, founders, marketers and job-seekers building a portfolio site who want to understand search engine optimisation without the folklore. You do not need a marketing background or paid tools. You do need access to a website you can edit, ideally one you can connect to Google Search Console, which is free.
You will learn how search engines discover, store and order pages, how to research what people actually type and what they are trying to do, how to write titles, descriptions, headings, internal links and structured data, and how to handle the technical side: sitemaps, robots.txt, page experience and measurement. The lessons are honest about limits. Nobody outside a search engine can promise a ranking, so the course teaches practices that make pages easier to find and more useful, and flags the shortcuts that tend to backfire.
The four lessons build in a straight line: first the mechanics, then what to write about, then how to mark up and structure each page, and finally the technical foundations and the routine for measuring what happened. Examples include runnable Python scripts for crawling and sitemaps, plus real HTML and JSON-LD you can adapt. Because search engines change their systems over time, specifics such as thresholds are noted as current guidance that you should confirm in each engine's documentation.
