Kubernetes Tutorial

Run containers at scale: Pods, Deployments, Services, config, storage and troubleshooting

Intermediate4 lessonsabout 20 min of reading

This Kubernetes course is for developers and aspiring DevOps engineers who can already build and run a container and now need to understand what happens when a team runs hundreds of them. You should be comfortable with Docker basics. If you are not, start with the Docker course first, because everything here assumes you know what an image and a container are.

You will learn how the control plane and nodes fit together, how to describe desired state in YAML and let Kubernetes make it true, how Deployments and Services keep an app running and reachable, how to inject configuration and keep data across restarts, and how to read the signals Kubernetes gives you when something breaks. Each lesson uses kubectl commands you can run on a local cluster such as kind, minikube or the one bundled with Docker Desktop.

The order follows how problems appear in real life. First the architecture and the Pod, the smallest unit you can run. Then the objects that keep Pods alive and addressable. Then configuration and storage. Finally scaling, health probes and a systematic walkthrough for the two failures every beginner meets, CrashLoopBackOff and ImagePullBackOff.

  1. 1Kubernetes Architecture and Pods Explained for BeginnersLearn how the Kubernetes control plane, nodes and Pods fit together, and deploy your first Pod with kubectl while understanding why it is disposable.5 min read
  2. 2Kubernetes Deployments, ReplicaSets and Services: Rolling UpdatesKeep apps running with Kubernetes Deployments and ReplicaSets, perform rolling updates and rollbacks, and expose Pods reliably with Services.4 min read
  3. 3Kubernetes ConfigMaps, Secrets and Persistent Volumes (PVC)Separate config from images with ConfigMaps and Secrets, understand why base64 is not encryption, and keep data with PersistentVolumeClaims.5 min read
  4. 4Kubernetes Scaling, Probes and Troubleshooting with kubectlScale with replicas and HPA, configure liveness and readiness probes, and debug CrashLoopBackOff and ImagePullBackOff step by step with kubectl.6 min read
