Advanced Java Tutorial
Generics, streams, concurrency, I/O and the JVM: the Java that real backend code is made of
Intermediate4 lessonsabout 29 min of reading
This course is for developers who have finished the basics (classes, methods, collections, loops) and now want to read and write the Java that production codebases are actually made of. If you can already build a small program with an ArrayList and a few classes, you are ready. If not, start with the Java course first.
Over four lessons you will learn to write generic code and stream pipelines without fighting the compiler, run work in parallel without corrupting shared state, handle failures and files in a way that survives bad input, and understand what the JVM does with your memory. Each lesson ends with a modern-Java section or tool so that your style matches current practice rather than Java 6.
The lessons run from language features to runtime behaviour: generics, lambdas and streams first, then concurrency, then exceptions and file I/O, and finally the JVM's memory model with records, sealed types and pattern matching. Every snippet was compiled and run on a recent JDK; where a feature needs a newer release than Java 17, the lesson says so. The concurrency material pairs well with System Design once you start thinking about scale.
Advanced Java lessons
- 1Java Generics, Lambdas and Streams API Explained with ExamplesGo beyond beginner Java: bounded generics, wildcards, functional interfaces, lambdas, method references and the Streams API, with a cargo-depot report.6 min read
- 2Java Concurrency: Threads, ExecutorService and CompletableFutureLearn Java concurrency the practical way: race conditions, volatile, thread pools with ExecutorService, CompletableFuture pipelines and virtual threads.8 min read
- 3Java Exceptions, try-with-resources and NIO File HandlingDesign Java exceptions properly, use try-with-resources and suppressed exceptions, and read, write and walk files with the NIO.2 Path and Files APIs.7 min read
- 4Java Heap, Garbage Collection, Records and Sealed Classes ExplainedUnderstand the JVM heap, stack and garbage collection, why memory leaks happen, then use records, sealed types and pattern-matching switch.8 min read
